Westgate is a small, suburban community in Ohio's state capital. Apartments for rent in Westgate are located close to the I-270 Outerbelt, downtown Columbus and The Ohio State University, making for a quick commute to anywhere in the area. This residential neighborhood is great for kids because of the nearby schools and enormous parks, but the location lends itself to anyone because of its proximity to downtown.
The recreational centerpiece of the neighborhood is Westgate Park. The large 46.3-acre park features a little bit of everything for the entire family. Westgate Park offers playgrounds for both very young children and elementary school-aged kids, allowing them to work on their respective motor skills without running over one another. For older children, the park has baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts and an outdoor handball court with a mural painted to commemorate the neighborhood's history. There's also fishing, picnicking and walking paths through the woods. Westgate Park isn't just a spot to play on weekends- it's the community meeting spot. It's home to the Hilltop Bean Dinner, a local festival with bands, arts and crafts and a car show.
Westgate apartment rentals aren't just kid-friendly because of the playgrounds and residential streets, but there are a variety of school options within walking distance. Across from the park, in the heart of Westgate, the Westgate Alternative Elementary School offers kids in kindergarten through fifth grade a holistic approach to school. The school focuses not only on academic prowess, but physical fitness too, to help children be well-rounded and healthy. West High School serves the teenagers in the neighborhood and the surrounding areas and is conveniently located in Westgate. The high school has strong programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic School is also in Westgate, next to the parish.
Getting around Westgate is very simple whether you have a car or not. Apartments for rent in Westgate have the benefit of being in the city of Columbus without the congestion of downtown. This location gives renters a 13-minute, 7-mile drive into downtown. The Ohio State University is even closer, at just about 11 minutes. But renters without a car shouldn't worry - the 6 Bus goes into downtown Columbus as well as all over Westgate. Interstate 270 is only 2 miles away, for quick access anywhere in the metro area.
