Established in the early 19th century, Central is one of the oldest communities in Cleveland. The neighborhood is named in honor of Central Avenue, which was the area's original major thoroughfare. Central is situated on the east side of Cleveland between the Downtown and Fairfax communities. The neighborhood has a variety of housing styles, retail shopping centers and recreational venues.
Central is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum's Library and Archives, which contains documents and memorabilia related to artists, DJs and other music industry personalities. The neighborhood has several national historic landmarks like the First Methodist Church and the Saint Paul Shrine, which was located in the heart of the former "Millionaire's Row." The Shiloh Baptist Church was erected in 1905 as the Temple B'nai Jeshrun Synagogue. Other nationally recognized buildings include the Zion Lutheran Church and its adjacent schoolhouse, which were constructed in 1902.
The Cuyahoga Community College has a metro campus in the neighborhood. The St. Vincent Medical Center as well as the shops and eateries of the Arbor Place Shopping Plaza are located near Central OH apartment rentals.
