Sawtelle is a neighborhood on the West side of Los Angeles. It is very close to some well-known, upscale Los Angeles neighborhoods like Bel Air and Century City. Its proximity to homes of the stars makes Sawtelle a popular location. The neighborhood was founded in 1899 and used to be an independent city. It was officially incorporated into Los Angeles in 1922.
Sawtelle is within the Los Angeles Unified School District and has three elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school within the neighborhood. The business district also houses the Japanese Institute of Sawtelle.
