Expect resort-style amenities, jaw-dropping skyline views and modern finishes in some of the most sought-after luxury apartments in Chicago. Designer interiors, rooftop pools and private balconies are found in many luxury apartment buildings and some come with unique history, too.

The key to finding the right luxury apartment in Chicago is to determine your top tier wish list. Is it amenities or location? Is it accessibility to public transportation or a strong-knit neighborhood community (not that those two things are mutually exclusive)?

Here are a few neighborhoods you should check out depending on your lifestyle.

Those wishing to live a life of luxury will find most properties with addresses close to Lake Michigan, whether they're located on the north side in neighborhoods such as Lakeview or Lincoln Park, or south of downtown in the Near South Side.

Downtown has also been seeing a resurgence as more people want to live closer to entertainment options including theatrical and musical performances as well as fine dining.

Besides the amenities many of these properties provide like fully-outfitted fitness rooms, round-the-clock security and parking availability, what's available around the neighborhood tends to be a big factor in choosing a home.

For those who want to be near the heart of downtown but still feel secluded, The Tides at Lakeshore East and Coast at Lakeshore East both provide stunning Lake Michigan views while still being part of a more intimate community. Nestled along the perimeter of a track-like oval park complete with children's park and dog park, the hidden neighborhood includes a grocery store, K through 12 school, four restaurants and its own coffee shop.

Former warehouses turned into luxury apartments, condos and businesses make up most of the West Loop where residents won't have a problem finding a place to dine since it's also home to Restaurant Row along Randolph Street.

Those who crave more of a tight-knit neighborhood with strollers, block parties and single-family homes will find luxury apartments buildings in Ravenswood or Lakeview popular. For those who prefer a more southern address, the South Loop has its own strong community of families.

There's no shortage of architecturally-significant and beautifully-designed luxury apartment buildings throughout Chicago. The Shoreland, in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, once claimed Elvis Presley and Amelia Earhart as guests when it was The Shoreland Hotel. Others properties, like 2950 North Sheridan on the north side, come with LEED certification, making it easier to live a greener lifestyle.

Whether you're looking for indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools with lake or skyline views, resort-like amenities or accessibility to some of the city's most popular attractions and entertainment options, there's a high probability you won't have a problem finding one. The challenge will be narrowing it down to only one.
