According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, serving as the second leading cause of cancer death. To aid in the fight against breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the most prevalent breast cancer organization in the United States, organizes a number of local and national events each year to raise awareness. If you’re in the Sacramento area during the month of October, here are a few events you can participate in.

Wacoal’s “Fit for the Cure”

Did you know that most women are wearing the wrong bra size? Wacoal, a national Komen sponser, will be hosting bra fittings throughout the region, donating $2 from each fitting and additional $2 for each new bra purchased. The Sacramento area fitting will be held at the Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto.

“Party in Pink” Zumbathon

If you haven’t yet discovered the new fitness craze that is Zumba, now is the perfect opportunity, as proceeds for the two hour “Party in Pink” Zumbathon benefit the Komen Sacramento Afficiliate. Lace up your athletic shoes, don your best pink workout gear and Zumba your heart out for a good cause. Tickets are $15 in advance, and $20 at the door, and 75 percent of the ticket fee is donated to Komen.

Artists for the Cure

If you’re a supporter of the local Sacramento art scene, head out to Artists for the Cure, a night of art, fashion, live music and a silent auction. Each guest that attends is automatically entered into a raffle for a three day Las Vegas vacation package for two. A $20 general admission ticket includes unlimited appetizers, a raffle ticket for the Vegas trip, admission to the fashion show and access to bid on art and jewelry items, while $30 VIP admission gets you all of the above plus a complimentary drink ticket and a swag bag packed with cool goodies.

Gala for the Cure

The second annual Gala for the Cure is guaranteed to be a memorable night. The evening will include a delicious dinner from Mulvaney’s, music performed by the Camellia City String Quartet and a live auction featuring a number of spectacular items, like a winemakers dinner at Formaggio, an oil painting by iconic local artist Bob Miller and a San Francisco 49ers game weekend package.

Masquerade for the Cure

For something classy and chic, head to The Masquerade for the Cure where $35 of your $75 ticket will go to Komen. Held at the beautiful Antiquite Maison Privee, attendees will get an up close and personal glimpse into this private venue that also doubles as an art gallery. Food and drinks will be provided, and semi-formal attire and masquerade mask are required.
