If you're looking for an easy way to step up your holiday decor, then look no further.
Give a plain strand of lights a glow-up with this DIY Christmas decoration step-by-step so you can light up your apartment.
Here's how to make a simple, festive burlap garland.
Roll out the burlap and cut it into strips. Each strip should be about eight inches long and between a half-inch and an inch wide. For a strand of 100 lights, you'll need between 175-200 strips of burlap.
Once your burlap strips are cut, tie them in a single knot around the strand of Christmas lights in between the light bulbs. Be careful not to pull too hard on the ends of the burlap or else it may begin to unravel.
Tie between one and two strips of burlap between each bulb. You can follow a strict pattern or tie the colors randomly.
Once the entire strand is covered in burlap, cut the shimmer ribbon into five-inch sections.
Tie the shimmer ribbon in between the burlap strips.
Do this sporadically, however you see fit, whether it's every foot, every few inches or every couple of strips. As an optional touch, add other Christmas touches to your burlap garland — try tying on some jingle bells or holly berries.
Plug in your garland and admire your work.
And that's everything! While this is an easy DIY Christmas project, it can take a little while to tie all of those burlap strips onto the lights, so make an evening out of it!
