happy shoppers

For bargain shoppers, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are nearly as important as the holiday season itself, but when it comes to home shopping, February's President's Day sales can be hard to beat.

Historically, mid-winter brings with it a host of sales on items that might be considered less glamorous than those more often shopped for around the traditionally gift-giving holidays, but sleeping soundly on a brand-new mattress might be the best gift you ever gave yourself!

Read on for stellar deals to consider as the holiday approaches.

Your A-game starts with Zzzz

Let's start in the bedroom. Companies including Wayfair, Lowe's, Home Depot, Sam's Club and Sears (not to mention all the smaller sleep-centric stores you'll find in just about any town, anywhere) traditionally offer deep discounts on mattresses from big-name brands like Sealy, Serta and TEMPUR-Pedic in February.

Furnishing change

Once you clear out all the Christmas clutter (by the way, this is a great time of year to grab next year's holiday décor on clearance!) you may feel the urge to change things up in your apartment. Places like Rooms to Go and Target have a solid history of slashing prices for President's Day, so put them on your radar.

What's in your closet?

Spring's coming, which may necessitate a new seasonal wardrobe – or at least a few fun new pieces. President's Day deals abound from fashion-forward outfitters including Macy's, which was listing more than 700 different items in its holiday sale online. Brands included Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Guess.

It's also a great time to pick up discounts on winter wear, since they're cleaning house for warmer weather. That sharp wool coat you couldn't afford for this season is sure to look smashing on you when fall circles back in a few months.

There's an app for that

In this case, “app" means appliances. Apartment dwellers need not worry when the fridge or built-in microwave needs repair or replacement, but don't forget that coffee makers, toaster ovens, food processors and margarita makers count as appliances, too! Try Bed, Bath & Beyond and Best Buy for super deals from famous makers like Kitchen Aid, Cuisinart and Keurig.

And speaking of “super…."

January is usually tops for TV deals leading up to the Big Game, but those sales often extend into the following month, so keep your eyes open for amazing post-game grabs at the big-box retail stores – in person but also online. Huge distributors like Amazon also post all kinds of specials, not just for TVs and related products (Firestick, anyone?) but for any of the items we've mentioned here.

Last but not least, don't get too distracted while you're researching President's Day deals! It may seem like the perfect time to get yourself that gift you missed out on in December (or finally take the plunge on something you've needed for a while), but don't forget about Valentine's Day.

Be sure to keep an eye peeled for your special someone while you're bargain hunting!
