Beloit College is recognized as being the state of Wisconsin's oldest institution of higher learning. With its roots dating back to 1846, BC has been preparing the young people of the state for careers in growing fields for generations. Today, it offers students a chance to earn degrees in several popular areas. The suburban setting gives students the best of both worlds: the high class establishments associated with the city and the natural escapes of the country. Student housing enables the nearly 1,400 individuals enrolled at the school to take advantage of these many benefits.
As a well-respected academic institution, classes at BC take precedence over most other things. The school boasts a four-year graduation rate of 67 percent, which is higher than most comparable colleges. Being a college of liberal arts and science, classes are spread among many different subject areas. The Psychology program has the highest enrollment, but most other subject areas, including Anthropology, Creative Writing, Political Science and History, have roughly the same number of students.
Abou 94 percent of students live in university housing. However, this does not mean that there aren't plenty of student apartments available in the area. Those interested in living in an off campus apartment may find a number of attractive options in the city of Beloit. Not to mention, student housing in the area puts students in close proximity to the world's largest can of chili, which is the city's most prominent claim to fame. Those looking for urban entertainment options may find them in the city of Milwaukee, which is just a one-hour drive away.
