As a student looking for an apartment near the UW campus, I was so happy to have found The Kennedy Building because it was significantly cheaper than any other housing nearby. Unfortunately, it was way too good to be true. Here are only a couple of the issues I had to deal with during the duration of my 10 month lease: 1. One of the residents on the first floor regularly is seen digging through the big dumpsters on the side of the building and brings her findings in through the hallways leaving a terrible smell in her path. Several residents reached out to management and nothing has been done for months. 2. For about three months that I lived here there was a really potent smell of dog pee in one of the hallways and all that management did to try and solve the problem was spray some Febreeze on it. 3. Almost every day, if not every day, there are either homeless people sleeping in front of all the building entrances, trying to break into the building (during one instance they broke the keypad to get it), or following people in through the first floor and sleeping in the lounge. 4. The gym is so small that it becomes crowded when 2 or 3 people are in it. 5. The walls and ceilings are extremely thin. Personally, I had upstairs neighbors that would stomp around sometimes moving things at 3 or 4 in the morning every day. If you have a bedroom that shares a wall with the hallway, you can hear anything and everything outside. When I put in noise complaints, management did nothing. 6. The specific area the building is located in is pretty sketchy (9th Avenue and 45th Street). There are constantly ambulances driving by at all hours of the night, people setting off fireworks, car break-ins, and thefts.

If you like to have your car broken into (even through its in the garage), maintenance to arrive months after your request, stolen packages, awful smell in complex, mysterious charges, leasing office being unhelpful, and ridiculous charges after your lease ends. This is the place for you. I would not and could not recommend this place to anyone. They willingly know they have mold in their complex and wont tell you. A few tenants I spoke to have it. If their lease contracts looks appealing or cheap trust me dont do it. Theres a reason why it is cheap. If you want to live in a place where there is no law, no help, and a management that only cares about themselves, that will charge you no matter what. Please do. Or at least send me the free money youre so willingly to part.

I have lived in almost 8 different rented apartment locations and this is by far the worst location I have ever lived at. Management sucks and a double locked door garage still had my car broken into multiple time with no available recourse because of failing management. Purposefully avails themselves to students but schedules not immediately necessary repairs during midterm and final sessions. Their covid response was non existence and they purposefully work to put an end community initiatives, such as grocery shopping for neighbors during the first lock down. Do not move here, its a scam and someone is using the garage to repeatedly break into cars. Bathtub doesn't fill and they installed our closte doors wrong.

If you're deciding between this place and another I'd highly recommend not the Kennedy building. Besides the floor plans being pretty awful and the loudness from being right on 45th, it's always a messy, smelly building. The elevators are always extremely slow, I've waited nearly 5 minutes for an elevator before, I just started using the stairs from the 6th floor because it's faster. The halls smell like garbage almost constantly, it's not just sometimes. Not only garage, but cigarettes. It's a "non-smoking" community and you sign a contract on your lease that you will not smoke on property, but people always do. Even in their apartments. People leave dog poo on the roof area and all around the building. The management spends money on the weirdest things here, they bought an outdoor pool table last year for the community, but 99% of the time it's just covered and getting rained on (I've seen people playing maybe three times), but they wont do stuff like pay for new elevator buttons/maintenance for mooonnnthhs even though the buttons are broken and one already fell off (it's still off, you have to press a button on the circuit board). They won't fix stuff on their own like broken lights and wires hanging out of sockets for weeks unless you report it so they have to. Once for four days all the lights in the hall were off, only the emergency fire escape lights were on. Moving out next month and couldnt be more happy. We were looking at our last fees charged to our account and they tried to double charge us for $400 in excess fees. They tried to double charge for move out cleaning fee before left and accused us of having expired renters insurance and charged us for liability and post it for our next months payments... in return we sent them a copy of our renters insurance policy which has never expired in the entirety of our time here. This company is a bunch of thieves. PLEASE do yourself a favor and never live here.

I enjoy the safety I feel when I am at home in my apartment, and so do my children . I love the roof and the view we have from the roof. We all enjoy the location being convenient to take a walk or run errands.
