Good apartment building. It's pretty modern being built circa 2005. Decent size and the building is pretty solid. I'm pretty picky about where I want to live due to wanting a good size space, rent price, parking garage, and sound insulated units. And Eastlake I found is pretty great for that. The management is very helpful and willing to cooperate as well.

Garage Security Is A Problem. Car prowls occur far too frequently.
Police state that the camera system in the building has never produced video to support a police investigation into these car prowls. The security camera system is unreliable, and management usually only learns about a recording failure after an incident.

Twice in 2017 my vehicle was broken into while in the apparently secure parking garage.
During the second incident 5 vehicles were prowled. The first incident cost me $700 in vehicle repairs, and the second $250. The paint on my vehicle was scratched from the broken glass.

In raising the lack of garage security to building management, their favorite response is to remind the tenant that the Garage is not actually secure, but is just controlled access. They then deflect blame onto tenants, suggesting that someone must have let someone tailgate in while the garage door was open.

However, when it comes to raising rent on your lease renewal, that passiveness on security turns into aggressive action in jacking up your rent. Over 4 years, my one-bedroom went from $1900 to $2700.
Meanwhile, new people moving into the building are getting lower rent than existing tenants because of a market incentive that is offered to new tenants but not loyal multi-year tenants.

While one auto break in is too many in our eyes, we provided what we could to police to help with the investigation. As far as rental rates, signing a longer term lease may have a lower monthly rate than short terms. We valued your residency and wish you the best of luck.

A gorgeous view at a wonderful value! A couple miles away from South Lake Union and Downtown, Eastlake 2851 provides a wonderful apartment at a very competitive price.
