Living in University of Richmond, VA

The University of Richmond, a private liberal arts university located on the periphery of Virginia's capital city, has brought student living to the community since its founding in 1813 as a seminary for the Baptist Church. Adapting throughout its history, the storied university was used as a hospital for Confederate troops during the American Civil War, and later as a barracks for the Union Army. Today, the nonsectarian institution is a highly selective school that offers a wide variety of academic concentrations, and the opportunity for student living in the exciting city of Richmond. Located in a calm, suburban setting on the western edge of the city, the University of Richmond campus offers a comfortable setting and easy access to the capital's downtown region. Student housing is available both on campus, and in off campus housing in the school's surrounding neighborhoods, located just north of the James River.

U of R is primarily an undergraduate institution, supporting more than 4,500 full- and part-time students at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels. Academic concentrations are offered through the School of Arts and Sciences, Robins School of Business, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, School of Law and School of Professional and Continuing Studies. Undergraduates may choose from 100 majors, minors and concentrations offered through the Arts and Sciences, Business and Leadership schools, while the School of Continuing Studies is primarily reserved for evening classes for part-time adult students.

Off campus housing is a popular option among students who wish to take advantage of the University of Richmond's pristine location, adjacent to the Country Club of Virginia, and a short walk from the James River. A university apartment also places students near Westhampton Lake, Virginia's cozy Tuckahoe community, and about six miles from the center of Richmond.
