I'm interested in viewing a 2-bedroom 2bath unit

My apartment wasnt cleaned well when I moved in. In the whole year I have lived here, I didnt have hot water. Cold showers in the winter isnt nice. My electricity blew. I spent a week in a hotel while contractors worked on fixing it. My air conditioning unit got fried. They had to bring me a window unit. So while the apartment and community looks nice you may end up locked in a leasing in a home with issue after issue.

Im a current resident preparing to move out of state. Ive been here since 2019. What I find is fairly typical in apartment living. Beautiful public spaces for the sales image and older worn fit and finishes in the apartments. Up charges for renovated units that somehow dont exist when you decide to move in. No trash pickup and Amenities that you wont use. Maintenance is responsive. They fix things cosmetically, but actually repair nothing. We had 4 service calls during our stay and each fix, had to be redone by an outside professional. Office staff is primarily here for the sale. Not for the care and feeding of the residents.. Once you understand this process, living here is just fine. A bit over priced because of the Reston location. Similar apartments in the real world are $3K - $5K less. All together a good place to live if your expectations and familiarity with Apartment living are known. Convenient location to government employees, retail, and medical services. Its semi suburban in environments.

The apartments are old, even the renovated apartments are done with half efforts. They dont even change the blinds when you renovate. The apartment manger Adam is absolutely useless. When you mention complaints that has to do with noise and security he tells you to call the police. He lacks basic customer service skills and is textbook passive aggressive. He refuses to apologize, which can be seen in community wide emails he sends regarding the trash. THERE IS A TRASH PROBLEM. There is one trash compactor for the entire complex and this trash compactor has failed on numerous occasions, which forces residents to leave the trash outside the compactor. Rather than apologize for the inconvenience, Adam will ask residents to not put trash outside the compactor or blame the company that picks up the trash...without giving a timeframe as to when the trash issue will be fixed! It is Neanderthal-thinking and his emails so obviously deflect the issue from him and his office to others, that is it just laughable. During snow storms they do not maintain the grounds with adequate salt and cleaning. The buildings are very old, and so most residents will understand if there are issues. But the nonchalant attitude of the entire staff, as well as the lack of customer service from the leasing office is appalling. It is not what you expect from a premium brand like Avalon.
