Paul D Camp Community College, VA

Paul D. Camp Community College is one of 23 schools in the Virginia Community College System, operating out of its main campus in the town of Franklin since its establishment in 1970. Student living has since expanded to a satellite campus, Hobbs Campus, in Suffolk, as well as a learning center in Smithfield, which opened in 1993. PDCCC’s service area extends to Franklin and Suffolk, and the counties of Southampton and Isle of Wight, where the Camp family name is well known. In the late 19th century, six Camp brothers founded a saw mill which thrived and helped to industrialize the region. Paul D. Camp was an advocate for education whose daughters donated land to the community college upon its establishment. Today, about 2,600 full- and part-time students enroll at PDCCC and reside in nearby student housing. The college’s main campus rests on the edge of downtown Franklin, where students may rent off campus housing.

PDCCC offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, certificates and career studies programs at each of its campuses. Student living aims to meet the needs of students with a variety of lifestyles, and the college offers both day and evening classes, credit and non-credit workforce services, training for business areas and online courses. Students with a variety of interests enroll at Paul D. Camp Community College, as evidenced by the school’s robust course offerings, which include programs in Corrections, Early Childhood Development, Management, Nursing, Electricity and American Sign Language.

Most PDCCC students reside in off campus housing near one of the college’s campuses. In Franklin, this neighborhood is anchored by Armory Drive, which offers several convenient eateries and the popular hangout Rayjens Restaurant. At the west end of Suffolk, the campus and its surrounding college apartments are in a forested residential neighborhood, near Luter Pond and Highland Road.
