Longwood University, VA

Longwood University is a public institution located in central Virginia. Founded in 1839 as the Farmville Female Seminary Association, the school is one of the oldest public colleges for women in the U.S. Student living became coeducational in 1976, and Longwood was accredited as a university in 2002. The university continues to expand, adding a Communications and Theater building, a health and fitness center, a new student housing complex, a bookstore, and a renovated Art building between 2007 and 2011. In addition to on campus dormitories, university apartments and off campus housing in Longwood's hometown of Farmville, Virginia, are available for students to rent. Currently, enrollment has settled at about 4,100 undergraduates and 800 postgraduates who attend Longwood University each year.

The university's expansive liberal arts curriculum includes more than 100 majors and minors offered through the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Economics, and the College of Education and Human Services. The school's two most popular programs are the MBAdvantage Program, in which students receive a bachelor's degree and MBA in about 5 years, and the Liberal Studies program, which prepares students for teaching at the elementary or middle school level. As Longwood University solidifies its strong academic reputation, the U.S. News and World Report has repeatedly ranked the institution within the top ten public, masters-level universities in the South.

Beyond the practical conveniences of renting off campus housing near Longwood University, a university apartment allows students to enjoy the treasures of the Farmville community.
