Located in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of Southwest Virginia, Ferrum College is a private institution founded in 1913. Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, the school places Christian principles at the center of its curriculum, and offers a wide variety of courses in the liberal arts disciplines. In 2012, the U.S. News & World report ranked Ferrum College 46th among comprehensive colleges in the South.
Though a small community, Ferrum, Virginia, rewards those who rent off campus housing or otherwise engage in the town’s cultural life. Ferrum is home to the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum, which is located near Ferrum College’s main campus, and holds the annual Blue Ridge Folklife Festival on the fourth Saturday in October, to exhibit the region’s treasured traditions.
