Studio apart with large new bath and open kitchen living area with full or partial access to a large 30' x 96' (2880 sq ft) greenhouse/hoophouse, shared garage/shop space, large garden & shared farmland with irrigation shares, farm tools & equipment. We have plans to build a farm stand/store on the property with customer parking and space for a weekend farmers market. This is not your typical "apartment for rent." I am looking for a single person or couple interested in trading work on the farm for rent and growing a farm business. We are not looking for a specific age group; we are more interested in finding the like-minded person(s) to join our little farm. We seek a responsible, honest, able-bodied, drug-free, non-smoker (SINGLE or COUPLE) to help take care of our shared 4-acre farm property. I will rent you an apartment with farm amenities at a steep discount so you can be on the farm, watching things and helping to grow a small farm business, either for yourself or as a joint venture. Rent is $1200 mo. But will be reduced to as low as $300 mo. in exchange for work on the farm. The ideal candidate will be interested in homesteading and ready to bring their knowledge or willingness to learn. The property has a plot of land to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers to sell locally and at farmers' markets. A large high tunnel (hoophouse) can extend the growing season, be used to start plants and flowers early for the market, and produce cold hardy vegetables and greens year-round. We have a tractor, tillers, mowers, yard tools, compost, and other supplies to help us grow. These tools can be used for a fee or in exchange for a percentage of sales going back into the farm for repairs, maintenance, utilities, new supplies, and building materials to continue growing the farm. Your work will cover rent - see a partial list of some expected duties below. These duties relate solely to the rent and are not associated with any additional agreement we have related to a farm business. A $1200 non-interest-bearing refundable deposit is required. This is not an "employment relationship." it is a barter arrangement. Nonetheless, we will require an application and rental agreement. We use a property management system that requires eviction, background, and credit reports. A partial list of duties includes weekly cutting of the grass in the spring, summer, and fall, weekly yard work, weeding, mulching, and upkeep--watering plants and trees and maintenance and repairs to the hoophouse, main house, outbuildings, fences, sheds, and general farm work.
