Me and my roommate were in a pickle before we moved here, and the manager got us in super quick. Most of my interactions with management were decent. Maintenance usually fixed issues promptly, but when I tried to get a hold of emergency maintenance, they did not respond to my calls. On a Sunday, I came home to rest after visiting my family up north and I was incredibly sleep deprived, and maintenance was refurbishing the apartment above me causing a lot of noise that lasted into the evening, without giving any notice (I would have not come home that day had I been aware that this was happening).
Per my research, these apartment buildings were built in the 1970s, and it does not seem like the internal structure itself has undergone any renovations for some time. Thus, the floors are very creaky, and its very easy to hear anything your upstairs neighbor is doing, and if youre top level its also very easy for your downstairs neighbor to hear what youre doing (per some residents Ive had contact with). This includes: Talking, getting up at night to go to the bathroom, watching television, using a sewing machine, opening and closing windows, or simply bending over to pick something up. Basically, its the typical apartment noise youll experience living in an apartment multiplied several times.
I have queried management about the noise coming in from other apartments during my stay here, and I have been told that there is nothing that can be done to remedy the noise except move me to a top floor apartment, which I ultimately opted not to do. I have been inside other apartments in this complex, and structural noise appears to be a very common issue that many residents experience. I feel compelled to express my concern that this issue is only going to continue to get worse until something happens that forces the owners to address it.
Sometimes I miss living at Willow Glen. This apartment had a lot of first time memories for me. I wish I could have enjoyed it more.
Loud neighbors and no one does anything, rules are not adhered to, certain residents seem to get special privileges, upper management is not available when needed
I rated Willow Glen 'good' instead of 'excellent' because of steeply increasing rent rates, the decrease in utilities covered by management and the slow slow maintenance staff. We had our air conditioning checked three times before they found that the freon levels were too low because the guy who came the first two times didn't know how to check the level. I was so furious because we had a baby in May and our air conditioning was on 24/7 for three weeks resulting in a massive electricity bill.
I live alone and appreciate the fact that I feel safe here, even when coming in late in the evening. The manager is always ready to respond to questions and needs. Maintenance is prompt and helpful. I do wish the windows could be washed on the outside, I live on the top floor and can"t do them myself! My neighbors are friendly and mostly careful about noise. Residents could be more careful around the garbage bins, spilled food brings pests, and broken glass is dangerous.
