Situated in St. George, Utah, is Dixie State College, a public institution with a student population of about 6,400. The school was originally founded by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints under the name St. George State Academy, eventually changing its name to Dixie State Normal College, where it prepared teachers for their future careers. As the years continued, the school expanded in size and scope, eventually offering a wide variety of degrees to any student living in the area. In fact, some of the most rapid growth in the university's history took place between 2008 and 2010, when enrollment exploded by about 40 percent, which led to the development of several new degree programs.
One of Dixie State's unique features is the Raging Red Show Choir. Founded in 2009, the ensemble has performed throughout Utah and in parts of Nevada and Arizona - they even traveled to China in 2010 for the World's Fair. Students who are a part of the Raging Red Show Choir are encouraged to act as positive forces in their communities and has become a large attraction for those interested in attending the school.
