All about

University of Texas Austin, TX

With an enrollment of more than 50,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the University of Texas, in Austin, has become the fifth-largest single campus in the U.S., and the largest in the Lone Star State. In addition to its notable size, the school has amassed an academic reputation in the top tier of all national universities, and was even named one of the original so-called "public ivies." UT has supported student living since 1883, when its campus was founded less than a half-mile from the Texas State Capitol Building. Today, the majority of young scholars at the University of Texas find off campus student housing in this attractive area at the center of a young and energetic city.

The University of Texas at Austin offers a unique student living experience. Its 18 schools and colleges offer more than 100 undergraduate programs and 170 graduate degrees, and its research facilities are typically supported by more than $640 million in funding each year. But in addition, the campus is home to 17 libraries and seven museums, including the LBJ Museum and the Blanton Museum of Art. In 2008 the university opened a new Education and Conference Center, as well as Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the largest stadium in Texas. Academically, the school ranks 13th among public universities, according to the U.S. News & World Report, in part due to its strong Business and Engineering programs.

Because dormitories hold less than 15 percent of students, off campus housing at UT is an important aspect of student living. A university apartment in Central Austin lets students easily navigate the city, and take advantage of local hubs like Players and Veggie Heaven.
