Texas Southern University, perhaps better known as TSU, is one of the largest and most comprehensive historically black universities in the U.S. When the institution was founded in 1947, it was declared the first state university in Houston. While 85 percent of the student body is African American, applicants of all races are invited to pursue student living at TSU while earning a degree.
