Located just outside the Dallas and Fort Worth metropolitan area, Southwestern Christian College (SWCC) is a historically black college operating under the guidance of the Churches of Christ. The college was originally founded in 1948 as the Southern Bible Institute in Fort Worth. However, the school moved to the former location of the Texas Military College in nearby Terrell in 1949, changing its name to Southwestern Christian College.
SWCC’s stated mission is to "offer a holistic educational program that will motivate the student to value and achieve academic excellence within the context of commitment to moral and spiritual values" in addition to helping them transition from the role of student to various career opportunities in life.
Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment near SWCC have access to the school’s noted academic and religious fields of study. The college offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees as an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science in Religious Studies.
Student living and university living at SWCC allow students close access to Dalls and Fort Worth’s various cultural, educational, commercial and recreational landmarks. Students may also enjoy the school’s men’s and women’s athletics programs in basketball, volleyball and track as part of the National Junior College Athletics Association.
