Located just outside of Dallas and Fort Worth in Waxahachie, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is a Christian university affiliated with the Assemblies of God USA providing liberal arts and religious ministries degrees. The only Assemblies of God institution of higher education in Texas, SAGU was originally founded as the result of the merger of three separate Bible schools - the Southwestern Bible School, the Shield of Faith Bible Institute and the Southern Bible College. After various structural changes and renamings, SAGU emerged in its current form in 1994 - almost sixty years after its original incarnation.
SAGU’s stated mission is "to prepare undergraduate and graduate students spiritually, academically, professionally, and cross culturally so as to successfully fill evangelistic, missionary and church ministry roles and to provide quality educational and professional Christian service wherever needed throughout the world."
Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment at SAGU have access to the school’s esteemed academic and religious fields of study. The school is comprised of two colleges - the College of Bible & Church Ministries and the College of Arts & Professions. Popular programs include music, social work, Bible & theology, criminal justice, world ministries, education, communication arts, English, social studies and history.
Student living and university living at the school revolve around a bevy of traditional campus clubs and faith-based organizations. SAGU’s athletic programs feature Judah the Lion as their mascot and compete in the NAIA in men’s and women’s sports like soccer, football, baseball, volleyball and cheerleading.
