A private liberal arts institution in Kerrville, Schreiner University has brought student living to the central-Texas town since 1923. Until 1971, the school served as a military institute that operated as a secondary school and a junior college. The school has since expanded into a university that offers degrees in a variety of fields and hosts several lecture series and academic conferences, including a very popular annual pop culture symposium. Those who decide to live in student housing in Kerrville become part of a community that is small enough to feel intimate, but large enough to support events such as the Texas State Arts and Crafts Fair, which features artisans and entertainers, and the Kerrville Folk Festival, at which folk musicians from around the country perform. Meanwhile Schreiner University continues to attract students with its own academic reputation.
Today, about 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students enroll at Schreiner University and live in student housing in the area. Schreiner offers 27 four-year undergraduate programs, as well as an MBA degree and a master of education degree. Student living benefits from Greek life and a long list of clubs and activities.
Near off campus housing, the attractions of enrolling at Schreiner are just as abundant. A Schreiner University apartment opens students to a community that includes hubs such as the large Kerrville City Park, Rio 10 Cinemas, and a string of shops, bars and restaurants along Broadway, which runs off the west side of campus.
