Founded in 1960, Houston Baptist University, has developed a curriculum that aims to help students examine themselves, their society and the natural world with respect to its relationship to God. Though HBU focuses on Christian teachings and Biblical studies, the institution's system of education is built on a liberal arts foundation. The school invites students on various levels to engage in student living at HBU's campus in the Greater Sharpstown neighborhood of Houston, Texas. Today, more than 2,200 undergraduates and nearly 400 postgraduates study at Houston Baptist University, many of them with a university apartment in area.

Because of its liberal arts foundation, HBU offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors, as well as a range of pre-professional programs, spanning from Biblical Languages to Nursing. In addition, students may earn baccalaureate degrees in 30 disciplines, such as Art Studio, Chemistry, Christianity, History, Finance, English, Music and Sociology. Finally, graduate programs are available in business, Christian counseling, psychology and the liberal arts. As part of student living at Houston Biblical University students are prepared for work in the ministry as well as the professional sector.

Off campus housing places students in the southwest part of Houston, in a comfortable neighborhood with several local attractions. An HBU university apartment gives students access to the large Plazamericas Shopping Center, the Sharpstown Country Club and eateries like La Pupusa Loca.
