East Texas Baptist University, TX

East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) was originally founded in 1912 as the College of Marshall on the former Van Zandt Plantation in Marshall, Texas. The school first opened its doors in 1917 as a junior college and operated as such until 1944, when it became East Texas Baptist College. ETBU has remained affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas since its founding.

ETBU's mission states that its "purpose is the development of intellectual inquiry, social consciousness, wellness, skills for a contemporary society, global awareness and Christian characters" in order to "prepare students to accept the obligations and opportunities to serve humanity and the Kingdom of God."

Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment at ETBU have access to the school's notable academic programs and fields of study. The university is comprised of several departments including the School of Christian Studies, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Nursing, the School of Humanities, the School of Education, the School of Business and the School of Natural and Social Sciences.

Student living and university living at ETBU revolve around a bevy of traditional campus student organizations and club. In addition, students may enjoy the university's men's and women's athletic programs, which are nicknamed the Tigers. The teams compete in the NCAA's Division III in sports like soccer, volleyball, football, baseball, basketball and cross country.
