The Austin Community College District, headquartered in the Texas capital, is a network of eight campuses and 12 learning centers than span the Greater Austin area. Extending student living to residents of more than eight counties in Central Texas, ACC is one of the largest institutions of higher learning in the state. Though the college served only about 2,000 students when in opened in 1973, enrollment has since reached more than 41,000 individuals in for-credit courses, and the institution plans to further expand by opening two additional campuses in 2013.
