Initially founded in 1928, Angelo State University (ASU) has shares a unique bond with its hometown of San Angelo, Texas. Five years earlier, the people of San Angelo had entered their city among the list of other potential locations for the site of Texas Technical College.
San Angelo was passed over by the college, but the citizens decided to build their own college anyway with tax dollars and private contributions. As a result, San Angelo Junior College was born. Despite the beginning of the Great Depression in 1929, the institution remained operational and changed its name to San Angelo College. It wasn't until 1965 that the school expanded its role to become a four-year college, settling on its current status as Angelo State University.
Those living in student housing or an off campus apartment at ASU have access to the school's unique academic programs and fields of study. Students may pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees through the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Graduate Studies, College of Business and College of Health and Human Services.
Student living and university living revolve around a variety of traditional campus student organizations and activities. The ASU Rams and Rambelles compete in the NCAA's Division II in men's and women's sports like basketball, football, cross contry, golf, soccer and softball.
