Volunteer State Community College, TN

Volunteer State Community College is a two-year institution located northern Tennessee. The college, locally known as Vol State, serves the Nashville community, its home city of Gallatin, and the counties of Clay, Davidson, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale and Wilson. Vol State has supported student living in these regions since it opened its doors in 1971. In the ensuing decades, the college has opened degree-granting learning centers in Livingston and at McGavock High School in Nashville. Additional classes are offered at the Highland Crest facility in Springfield, and at locations in Macon and Wilson counties. Student housing, most commonly off campus housing, is available for rent near each of the college’s campuses and learning centers. Its main location in Gallatin, is part of a historic city in Middle Tennessee that is home to about 23,000 residents.

Students enroll at Volunteer State Community College to achieve Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degrees in about 80 diverse and unique academic concentrations. Courses are offered through the college’s five major divisions: Allied Health, Humanities, Business, Social Sciences and Education, and Math and Science. The school’s most popular programs include Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy Assistant, Pre-Nursing, Nursing, Paralegal Studies, Pre-Engineering and Communications. In addition, student living at Vol State lets students participate in degree transfer programs in more than 40 areas.

Enrollment at Volunteer State Community College recently reached nearly 9,000 individuals, many of whom live in off campus housing near the school’s main Gallatin campus. The city is home to attractions including a 10-screen theater called NCG Gallatin Cinema, the classic Palace Theater, the Sumner County Museum and several homes that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gallatin also puts on the annual Sumner County Fair in the last week of August, the Fall Festival and the Christmas Parade.
