Tennessee Temple University, a four-year Christian institution located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was established by the Highland Park Baptist Church in 1946. Initially a two-year Bible college, student living at TTU soon expanded and eventually became an accredited university in 2000. In addition to the main college, the university also operates the Temple Baptist Seminary, the university's graduate school of Christian theology. The campus is located in mid-town Chattanooga, about a mile west of downtown and of the curving banks of the Tennessee River. In this area, students gain access to several parks, nearby cultural attractions and ample student housing. Tennessee Temple University offers single-sex dormitories on campus, though students can also investigate the option of renting an off campus university apartment.
The liberal arts education at TTU is splintered into six academic divisions: the Department of Bible and Christian Ministries, Department of Business Administration, Division of Arts and Sciences, Division of Education, the Temple Baptist Seminary and the Center for Leadership Studies. Among these divisions, students may choose from nearly 20 undergraduate majors, as well as 7 master's and 7 doctoral degree programs. Additionally, attendance at church is a cornerstone of student living. Freshman are required to attend Highland Park Baptist Church, while upperclassmen may connect with a local congregation of their choosing.
