Tennessee State University, TN

Tennessee State University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is a comprehensive, coeducational institution, and a popular resource for student living in the state. Founded in 1912 as the Agricultural and Industrial State Normal School, as TSU expanded it became the only state-funded historically black university in Tennessee. The university has grown from a small trade and normal school into a two-campus college that includes a 500-acre main campus that sits at a bend in the Cumberland River, and the downtown Avon Williams campus, which is located near the State Capitol in Nashville. Student housing is available near both campuses, and position students in the largest urban area in Tennessee and near many of the city’s most treasured attractions. Though Tennessee State University offers on campus housing, students may elect to rent off campus housing to more closely relate with the city of Nashville.

Today, approximately 10,000 students enroll at TSU and spread themselves among the school’s dormitories, houses and university apartments. Students come from across the country and from 45 nations to study at the university, which offers bachelor’s degrees in 45 areas, and master’s degrees in 24 concentrations. Additionally, doctoral programs include biological sciences, psychology, public administration, computer information systems engineering, administration and supervision and curriculum and instruction. TSU also offers two-year Associate of Science degrees in both nursing and dental hygiene. Degrees are conferred through the university’s 8 schools and colleges, which include: The College of Liberal Arts, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, School of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, School Nursing and Institute of Government.
