The Pentecostal Theological Seminary, previously called the Church of God Seminary, is the educational unit of the Church of God and is located in the southeastern corner of Tennessee. The church, a Christian denomination, also operates universities and Bible colleges in California, Canada, Mexico and India. Student living was introduced at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in 1975, in Cleveland, Tennessee, just across the street from Lee University, another Church of God entity. Students continue to enroll at the seminary in order to work toward a graduate degree that will prepare them for work in the church, community and ministry. Additionally, the institution attracts devoted young learners with its location in a comfortable city of about 41,000 residents that offers downtown entertainment, natural beauty, and many appealing options for student housing. Students at PTS are invited to find off campus housing in the Cleveland community.
According to the institution's website, the mission of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary is to prepare men and women for Christian ministry, educating students as an act of obedience to God. "The Seminary is committed to the absolute authority of Scripture and to the Holiness-Pentecostal interpretation of the Christian faith as set forth in the Declaration of Faith in the Church of God." Consequently, student living is characterized by a community of faith and worship as well as academic study. Those with student housing at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary may enroll in any of five programs, which include Master's of Arts programs in Discipleship and Christian Formation, Church Ministries, and Counseling, as well as a Master's of Divinity and a Doctor of Divinity.
Located in downtown Cleveland, PTS positions its students in the center of its Tennessee community, near resources such as the North Cleveland Church of God and the affiliated Lee University.
