Motlow State Community College, a junior college located in south-central Tennessee, is one of the thirteen member institutions of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), the sixth largest system of higher education in the U.S. Established in 1969, MSCC brings student living to an area of more than 540,000 residents in Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Dekalb, Franklin, Lincoln, Moore, Rutherford, Van Buren, White and Warren Counties in the state. Today, about 5,000 students attend Motlow State each year, residing in student housing near the school's main campus in Lynchburg (Moore County), or satellite campuses in McMinnville, Fayetteville, Smyma, and Sparta. Near each of these locations, students may find a college apartment or off campus housing that permits for a convenient commute and lifestyle.

Motlow State Community College aims to enhance student living by fostering affiliations with other academic institutions, and offering programs for learners with a variety of goals and interests. As part of the TBR, Motlow State is affiliated with six other universities and 26 technology centers. The college also provides programs for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges and universities, students seeking a pre-professional degree or training in business, government, education and health professions, those involved in workforce development or lifelong learning programs, and high school students who enroll in the Dual/Joint Enrollment Program. In total, students may choose from any of 51 areas of study to earn an associates degree in the arts, science, teaching or nursing.

Off campus housing near Motlow State Community College's main Moore County campus puts students in a quiet community of about 5,750 residents. This town, Lynchburg, is best known as the home of the famous Jack Daniels Whiskey distillery.
