Overall I enjoy living at the Gilmore. It is in a great location - a few blocks from Midtown, Overton Park, and pretty neighborhoods to walk though. I have a small dogs and everyone has been really welcoming to us. My apartment is in pretty great condition, especially considering how old the building is. What I really enjoy the most is that the building has character - I love the art deco features throughout the building.
I've been at the Gilmore appx. 3 years and it's been great. For the first 2 years, I lived in one of the large studios and it was great until I outgrew it. Then, I moved to a 2 bedroom in Garden Court and for the most part it's been great. It's an old building so there's some pros and cons about it. We've had a couple weird pest issues like a wolf spider and a small lizard in our apartment. Other than that & sometimes loud neighbors/dogs, we love the 2 bedrooms and hope to stay here for a while.
The management and staff at The Gilmore are superb. It will be tough to top them. They have been highly responsive and very caring. They have also been excellent at showing hospitality to both residents and guests. I had moved out of two other apartment communities because I had felt something was missing. Even though I could enjoy a swimming pool and an exercise room there, I didn't feel quite at home. The staff at The Gilmore changed all of that. It was my first true home in Memphis.
great mgmt/maintenance team ! only concern : at least one elevator has been out-of-service 70 % of the time for two years. understand they are old & will occasionally break down. but why does it take 2 or 3 months to repair ? when bring-in groceries or doing laundry, slow elevators or no-elevators causes problems. reminder ... due to era of building ... there is no dishwasher, disposal, central-air, or in-unit washer/dryer. which is understandable. but we do need elevators that work !
Great management team, incredible location, absolutely delightful occupants
