I love living at Steeplechase! The location is great - right off the interstate, and it's easy to get just about anywhere in Knoxville. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with any requests I've had, big or small. The trees are pretty and I feel like my apartment is in a community without feeling crowded or cramped. I think the floorplans are unique and spacious, and the prices are very affordable.
Very quiet, which is wonderful because I'm a graduate student so it's great for studying and sleeping.
Months leading up to move-out, tenants receive an email stating that they have until a certain date to accept or decline a renewal offer, per lease agreement, that upon move-out, the tenant must provide a 60-day written notice to the office. The wording of the email was highly misleading, and I was led to believe I had until a certain day to decline or accept a renewal EVEN THOUGH it fell short of the 60-day notice.Needless to say, when I came to the office and spoke to someone about this I was talked to as if I were ignorant, and I was also told by the employee I spoke to that she was, "trying to be nice and tell me how much you owe because Steeplechase is not required to do that." Not to mention, I had to inform the office on three separate occasions of the day I informed Steeplechase I would not be returning, as I was continuing to be billed upwards to $500 more than what the situation was calling for. I was also told by management that I have, money problems.
Another statement listed a charge of "damages" for not cleaning the apartment/failure to shampoo the carpet.I used my own personal carpet shampooer, so I did not have a receipt for carpet cleaning services. During my time there I had constant issues with incoming cigarette smoke from other complexes coming into mine. My clothes, bed sheets, clean laundry, and even my makeup brushes smelt of smoke. This is something that I came to the office about with my concerns and I was shot down entirely and was spoken to like I was ignorant and was told it must be in my head cause thats not possible.
In the end, I was still billed OVER $600 for damages and rent that I owe because I failed to give a 60-day notice. I also have yet to receive a deposit of over $200 that I put down upon first moving in...over 3 years ago. A close friend who has not lived in those apartment in almost 7 years has yet to receive hers.
There is lots of mold and flooring damage when we moved in 2 years ago and it still hasnt been fixed . Our AC went out for a week last summer and it took a week to fix it .
I keep trying to upgrade apartments as I actually enjoy living here but the STAFF and OFFICE employees make it near impossible. They have ZERO communication or respect towards any current resident. ESPECIALLY if you look younger of age, I have lived here for over a year and a half now, and still cannot be taken seriously as I have never missed a payment. Its cheap living. How could I miss? Just a little mutual respect and slight care would make this place not have such the horrid name it carries today. 5/10. The place is a solid 10 but the service is a 0 bringing it to a 5/10.
