King College, TN

King College, a private institution located in the northeast corner of Tennessee, was founded in 1867, and retains its long-standing affiliations to the Presbyterian Church and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Student living is centered on a  wooded campus, which rests in the urban setting of Bristol, home to about 26,700 residents a numerous sporting and music venues. This city, known as the official "Birthplace of Country Music," according to a resolution passed by Congress in 1998, offers a wide variety of student housing options for those who do not wish to reside on the King College campus, which lies southwest of downtown Bristol, near Middlebrook Lake. Currently, about 1,800 undergraduate students enroll at the college, many of them deciding to investigate off campus housing. The city's relatively small size and vibrant culture combine to make Bristol both a manageable and exciting place to live.

The mission of King College, according to the school's website, is "to educate students in an academically rigorous and collegiate setting that integrates Christian faith, scholarship, service and career, leading to meaningful lives of achievement and cultural transformation in Christ." This mission of student living is carried through each of the college's 80 undergraduate majors, minors and pre-professional programs, which include the RN-to-BSN, the Bachelor of Business Administration, and the Bachelor of Information Technology. Additionally, graduate students may pursue an MBA, a Master of Science in Nursing or a Master of Education degree. Maintaining its Christian tradition, King College also houses several ministry groups and the Buechner Institute, which is dedicated to exploring the intersections between faith and culture.

A King College apartment in Bristol gives students the opportunity to explore a rich culture that carries a long musical heritage. Each September, the city puts on the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion to celebrate this tradition.
