Freed-Hardeman University, a primarily undergraduate institution in western Tennessee, was founded as the Henderson Male Institute by members of the Churches of Christ in 1869. Several name and philosophy changes have produced the student living experience that today greets young scholars who enroll, though the university maintains an emphasis on Biblical studies and Christian teachings.
