Free Will Baptist Bible College, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is a private, four-year institution and the national college of the 300,000-member Free Will Baptist denomination. The college was founded in 1942 by the National Association of Free Will Baptists, and opened student living to just eight students in its first year. Free Will has grown has since expanded into a 17-building campus that includes a gym, the Welch Library and men’s and women’s student housing. In 2008, the college purchased land in Gallatin, Tennessee, which will become the site of a larger campus. At the currently Nashville location, students may elect to reside in off campus housing, most commonly placing them in the city’s Cherokee Park and Hillsboro West End neighborhoods. This area is located several miles southeast of downtown, and just down West End Avenue from Vanderbilt University.
Free Will Baptist Bible College describes its mission as “educating leaders to serve Christ, His Church, and His world through Biblical thought and life.” To this end, all students are involved in Christian service outside of the classroom as part of student living. These services include working in jails and nursing homes, providing ministry for the homeless, and working in local churches. Academically, students work toward Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Music Education degrees, as well as two- and three-year associate’s degrees. FWBBC offers more than 30 academic majors, with strength in the fields of biblical and theological studies. In fact, about one-third of the college’s students major in a program that lead to positions in the ministry.
