Located in Rapid City, South Dakota, is the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SDSM&T), a public institution of higher learning governed by the South Dakota Board of Regents. The school was originally founded in 1855 as the Dakota School of Mines, gradually expanding in size and scope until adopting a technology program began offering courses in engineering and science fields. Currently, about 2,300 students are enrolled in SDSM&T.
