The new management company is Awesome! I am so happy with the changes that have happened around The Southern. It's the place to be right now!
The picture I have seen of this apartment is a great way to start a family and a great future .
Oherall, I'm not satisfied with my stay here. I don't know if my expectations were too high coming in or what. The cons outweigh the pros of living here in my opinion.
Here are the areas I'm disappointed in:
The utility overages are ridiculous and I've tried speaking with the company that does the billing to see what I can do to lower the utility cost. Even with following the tips they gave me, I'm still seeing a large overage. They said there's a base fee that is charged and it's a good chunk of the utility allowance that's included in the rent. I wish I was told that before I signed my lease. I feel like I cant really enjoy living here because I'm constantly worried about how much my next overage will be. I've never had this problem with other student complexes with the same utility allowance and I had been less conservative of my utility usage then.
Lack of resident events:
Other student apartment complexes have had many events for their residents. I don't think this complex does them. If they have then I must not be getting the emails or seeing advertisements. I know that the complex is not obligated to host the events, but I was told on my tour that they would host them. I think it's a nice way to build a relationship with the residents and for other residents to get to know people in the community.
I feel like as a whole, the office staff is not organized. It's not uncommon for me to be told one thing by one person and a different thing by the next person.
There are a couple of things I really like about living here:
The complex has a someone from a pest control company that comes weekly. If you ever have a problem with bugs, it gets taken care of in a timely manner.
Even though the utilities are pretty high, the rent itself is a GREAT price, especially for the size of the apartment. There's a lot of space to utilize.
Lived on the ground floor of an apartment backed up against the woods. Which is fine, good for privacy, until you realize that the amount of cockroaches coming in from the woods is absolutely insane. We placed our apartment on the exterminator's list for four straight weeks and are still having issues with bugs.
Upon confronting the property manager, he told us to purchase our own smoke bombs to place outside if we want to reduce the bug problem, otherwise we have to "deal with it." This is ridiculous, no apartment complex should force its own residents to deal with roach problems that are outside of their own control.
Outside of the bugs, the front office ran out of key fobs for the pool/fitness center and have not had them in stock for months, our washer/dryer have not been fixed for a month, and our dishwasher has been broken for months as well. The maintenance crew is doing a terrible job of keeping up with requests.
Do not live here. And if you do, hope that everything works when you arrive, and you live as far from the woods as possible.
