BC has an enrollment of just over 3,000, placing it among the state's mid-sized colleges. In spite of having a larger student body than many other schools in the area, Benedict's student to teacher ratio of 18 to 1 helps keep class sizes small. The majority of enrollees major in Business, Criminal Justice, Biology, Family Studies or Communication. The Education and Employment Statistic Division of the American Institute of Physics recently ranked BC as one of the top colleges in the nation in producing African Americans with an undergraduate degree in Physics. The school also encourages students to become active in service learning programs that get individuals involved with 114 different partner nonprofit groups in the Columbia area.

Located in the heart of Columbia, one of South Carolina's largest cities, there are plenty of off campus apartments in the area. There are numerous student apartments in the nearby neighborhoods of Waverly and Forest Acres. Columbia's bustling downtown district is just a few blocks away from the campus as well.
