Living in Rhode Island

Rhode Island is the smallest state in size in the United States. It covers an area of 1,214 square miles. Its distances North to South are 48 miles and East to West 37 miles. Or indulge in a memorable dining experience at a waterfront restaurant. Newport has miles of scenic coastline ideal for sailing excursions, relaxing beach time, and rejuvenating walks.

Recreation in Rhode Island

Recreational opportunities abound in Rhode Island. You can go fishing on Block Island Sound, take a road biking tour along the famed Breakers at Newport, or go for a scenic drive around Narragansett Bay. Good canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available at Belleville Pond, Alton Pond, and Stillwater Reservoir. If you are a hiker, you will love Arcadia Trail, Breakheart Pond-Mount Tom Loop, and the Pachaug-Tippecansett Loop. Good mountain biking trails can be found at Big River Management Area, Lincoln Wood State Park, and George Washington Management Area, which also provides great camping opportunities in its nearby campground.

Salve Regina University

For students, the prestigious Salve Regina University has a gorgeous campus and offers undergraduate academic programs based on the liberal arts, offering concentrations in the arts and sciences and in pre-professional and professional programs. At the University of Rhode Island you can choose from over 80 majors. If you like sports, university's department of Athletics and Recreation offers 18 intercollegiate sports and 17 club sports programs.
