Susquehanna University, PA

Located in the historic borough of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, Susquehanna University was founded in 1858 as the Missionary Institute of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and Susquehanna Female College. Selinsgrove, which earned distinction as the site of the world’s largest banana split in 1988, creates an attractive destination for student living with a blend of community spirit and suburban tranquility. Student housing can be found throughout the central Pennsylvania town, which sits on the banks of the Susquehanna River and just 50 miles north of the state capital of Harrisburg.

Today, Susquehanna University enrolls about 2,200 students who work toward Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Science degrees, which together span about 50 majors. The institution is split into the School of Arts Humanities and Communications, the School of Natural and Social Sciences, and teh Sigmund Weis School of Business. A unique part of curriculum requires students to go off campus for cross-cultural learning in areas like South America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Susquehanna University is also known for its civic engagement in the community, and many upperclassmen decide to rent off campus housing in Selinsgrove. From a university apartment, students can find much recreation space along the Susquehanna, as well as popular hangouts, such as Selin’s Grove Brewing Company and BJ’s Steak and Ribs House.
