Saint Vincent College and Seminary, PA

Saint Vincent College is located in Latrobe, a small town in south-central Pennsylvania, where it has been a landmark of the community for centuries. Many of those with student housing reside along side the Saint Vincent Parish Basilica, which was erected in 1790. Years later, in 1846, Saint Vincent College was founded by a Bavarian monk, who established the school as the first Benedictine monastery in the U.S. While the college has brought student living to the community, it continues to distinguish itself and engage with Latrobe in creative ways. In fact, since 1966, the college has served as the train camp host of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, and attracts tens of thousands of visitors each summer.

While school is in session - and the Steelers aren’t a distraction - students at Saint Vincent College encounter a liberal arts curriculum that is intended to enable them to integrate their professional interests with the “broader purposes of human life.” Those in student housing may pursue a degree through one of the college’s four schools: the School of Business, Economics and Government, the School of Social Sciences, Communication and Education, the School of Humanities and Fine Art, and the School of Natural Science, Mathematics and Computing.

Today, Saint Vincent College enrolls about 1,800 students, about one-third of whom reside in off campus housing. A college apartment near the campus grants students a measure of independence and allows them to create a self-sufficient life style during their period of study. As an added bonus, off campus housing gives students a year-round residence and a place to stay when those Steelers come to town.
