Moore College of Art and Design, PA

The Moore College of Art & Design is the first and only women's visual arts college in the U.S., and only one of two in the world. Founded in 1848, the school was intended to be a launching pad for career-minded women seeking financial independence through a quality education. By bringing student living at Moore College to the heart of Philadelphia, the school places students in the midst of a lively community of artists, designers and scholars. Student housing in this area, alongside Logan Square, brings the treasures of the city to the front door, and provides amble resources to complement a period of study at Moore College. Today, more than 500 women enroll at the institution, many opting to live in off campus housing throughout the community.

When The Moore College of Art & Design was founded, its main function was to prepare women to work in burgeoning industries created during the robust Industrial Revolution in Philadelphia. Nowadays, however, the college offers nine undergraduate programs, including Art Education, Art History, Curatorial Studies, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography and Fine Arts. Each program culminates with at Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As part of student living at Moore College, all artists in training are required to complete an internship, proliferating the school's career-focused mission.
