Founded in 1812, Lycoming College is one of the 50 oldest institutions of higher education in the U.S. The school is located in Williamsport, a city of about 30,000 residents in central Pennsylvania. Lycoming’s long history has cemented the institution’s position in the community and paved the way for students to live in off campus housing in the area. Student living in Williamsport is supported by recreation space along the west branch of the Susquehanna River, a multitude of theaters, restaurants and pubs, and events such as the annual Little League World Series that the city sponsors. Lycoming College student housing is available throughout the city in neighborhoods that meet different tastes and schedules.
The college now enrolls about 1,400 undergraduate students, who come from all over the country to pursue one of the school’s academic programs. Lycoming confers bachelors degrees in the arts and sciences, spanning about 40 majors. The college is home to a notable music program that includes a concert band, choir, jazz band, music lessons and smaller ensembles. The quality of the choir has risen to the level that the group began performing weekend tours, spring break trips through the American South and even an overseas tour in Argentina.
While studying at Lycoming College, about 20 percent of students elect to rent off campus housing in Williamsport. A Lycoming College apartment is available in attractive areas, along the banks of the Susquehanna River, and near attractions like the Bullfrog Brewery, Cinema Center and Franco’s Lounge, all of which are located off of North Market Street, which runs past the campus.
