When King’s College was established in northeastern Pennsylvania in 1946, the school was built to educate the sons of local miners and mill workers who lived near its campus in the city of Wilkes-Barre. More than 50 years later, the institution has grown into one of the top choices for a liberal arts education in the Keystone State and spent much of the past two decades on the U.S. News and World Report’s list of the best colleges in the nation. Student living at Kings’ College takes students to a 50-acre campus in downtown Wilkes-Barre, adjacent to the banks of the Susquehanna River. Today, nearly 2,700 students enroll in a variety of academic programs and build a lifestyle from nearby King’s College student housing.
The student body at King’s College is composed of both graduate students and undergraduates. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in 35 majors, including favorites like business, education, humanities and allied health, as well as a master’s degree in physician assistant studies and in education studies. In addition, those in student housing may pursue any of seven pre-professional programs and 10 special concentrations.
Off campus housing is a popular draw for students of King’s College, in part because of the excitement and recreation the city of Wilkes-Barre has to offer. A King’s College apartment near campus positions students near the River Common area along the river. In the opposite direction, closer to downtown, those with off campus housing may frequent restaurants like Thai Thai, Chill Grill, and Valley Sea Foods.
