The small town of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, is the site of student living for those who matriculate at Juniata College. The town’s natural attributes - the Juniata River, Raystown Lake, a stretch of pleasant cliffs - stir in many students the desire to find a college apartment or other student housing in the scenic region. The liberal art school, founded in 1876, was the first college founded by the Church of the Brethren, and has grown to serve an enrollment of approximately 1,500 students from across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
On campus, students are presented with an array of resources that are continually being expanded and updated. Recently, the college completed construction of the Von Liebig Center for Science and the Suzanne von Liebig Theater, and renovated the campus’ first building, Founders Hall. These assets serve to assist student living as Juniata College’s young scholars choose or create a “Program of Emphasis.” Foregoing traditional majors, the college encourages students to create their own degree program, an opportunity in which nearly half of the student body participates.
In off campus housing, the offerings are just as exciting. Much of Juniata College student living revolves around the treasures of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Events such as Mountain Day, Lobersterfest and the Pig Roast make use of the nearby streams, lakes and mountains for days of celebration. On Mountain Day, for example, students are notified in the morning that classes have been canceled, and are shuttled to one of the area’s state parks for picnics, nature walks and a wide range of activities.
