VERDE is the premier new-construction luxury apartment community in the Hummelstown/Hershey area. VERDE is one mile from the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and is located within a walkable setting with schools, shops, dining, and recreation all just steps out your door.
VERDE is comprised of six ELEVATOR buildings containing a total of 134 one-and two-bedroom apartments with upscale finishes and amenities. VERDE welcomes PETS. VERDE is a SMOKE-FREE Community.
I love my apartment - the finishes are beautiful and walls/windows create a quiet environment. I never hear my neighbors or traffic. Communication with the leasing office is easy and Elaine is very nice and always helpful. I really like that trash and recycling are located inside on each floor for residents!
My only complaints are the lack of cleaning in common areas: hallways, stairs, elevators. The carpet in the hallways and stairs is stained and the elevator floor doesn't seem to be cleaned.
I also dislike that cats must be declawed. It's an inhumane process that I don't agree with and is discouraged by animal healthcare professionals. The reasoning has been explained to me, but this is the only apartment I've ever lived in that has this restriction and it seems bad for animal health and unnecessary considering the pet and security deposit.
Other than that, I'm satisfied as a resident.
Reasons I would rate Verde "good" overall instead of "excellent": I was not happy about the rent rate (and the fact that it is increasing each year) because we could easily have a 3-bedroom townhouse at the same or lower rate than what Verde charges for a 2-bedroom apartment. I am only okay with it for now since the rent is being split 3 ways. While it is great that pets are allowed here, I am confused on the policies with dogs ($50/month added to rent, $200 non-refundable fee, and only allowed to own a dog up to 30 lbs.). We do not currently own a dog, but these restrictions are a huge deterrent from wanting to have one while we live here. I strongly feel that an additional one-time security deposit (significant but less than a month's rent) should be added to the lease for any animals rather than the monthly rent and non-refundable fee. This way, Verde Apartments is protected by any damages the animals would cause but isn't punishing pet owners with non-refundable expenses when the cost to own a pet is already steep. The 30-lb. limit confuses me because I have seen several dogs larger than 30-lbs. being led into the apartments (most notably a beautiful husky/German shepherd mix that is at least 60 lbs.). This gives the impression that the policy isn't being enforced across the board; either it should be a strict policy or not in place at all. If it weren't for these things, I would want to stay at Verde as long as possible - Hummelstown has really grown on me, the staff have been great so far, and I love the layout/space within the apartment.
Everyone involved with building and managing the apartments has been fantastic. Super helpful and friendly.
I had a smooth transition moving into Verde. The leasing staff is very friendly and accessible.
Great location, horrible service.
The location is ideal, close to downtown Hershey and the medical center. A lot of medical students and residents live here.
The down side is really the management... completely unresponsive. Parking became crowded, no luxury services. One night my car was towed even though it had the parking sticker visible.. not to mention our plates were registered with management. We tried many times to get in contact with higher management or ownership and were repeatedly denied. Only person to talk to was the office manager who couldn't provide any explanation or compensation regarding the incident. Repairs and responsiveness were generally slow, often taking longer than promised and inconveniently timed.
I was happy to end my lease.
