The Union Apartments are GREAT urban living! Location, location, location: 3 light rail lines (with a 4th just 2 blocks away) and 3 bus lines just outside our doors make it easy to get downtown, to the airport - anywhere the extensive Portland Trimet system can reach! We rarely use our car anymore (extended Costco runs or late evening events, etc.) - in the time it takes to drive and park somewhere, we will have already arrived via Trimet. Can't beat it for getting to and from work downtown without any hassles.

The apartments themselves are really, really well designed, and QUIET - we never hear our neighbors except occasionally when walking down the interior hallways. The building is concrete construction, so you never hear people walking around upstairs, music thumping through the walls, etc. Every window opening has a pane that can be cranked open, so we don't use our AC unit much at all. Each unit has a front loading washer and dryer, and there is NO wasted space - they fit in as many closets and built-in cabinets as the floor plan will allow, and the 9-foot ceilings make a huge difference, giving even the smaller units a spacious feel (plus there's a surprising amount of wall space for hanging larger air pieces).

If you have a car, there's a waiting list for parking in the building, but they have an option for immediate underground garage parking just three short blocks away. There's a waiting list for storage rooms in the building, but storage is also immediately available in the nearby underground garage, at very competitive rates. Locked bicycle storage rooms on each floor are included in your rent.

Construction on a new Hyatt hotel has just started immediately south of the Union Apartments. Per City noise ordinance, work is limited to between 7AM and 6PM, with occasional Saturdays but no Sundays, and will run to January 2019. We have no plans to move as we love our home here, and after a couple of days you don't notice any extra urban noise.
