The University of Toledo’s Health Science Campus is an affiliation of three training hospitals in northwestern Ohio, where the public university’s Medical Center operates. The Health Science Campus provides care for residents of greater Toledo and provides a student living environment where medical students can receive practical training at each of the hospitals. With a capacity of 320 beds and a number of practice areas, the hospitals allows medical students who have a university apartment in the area to explore a number of opportunities. Off campus housing near the Health Science Campus can enhance student living by offering convenience and comfort, with close proximity to all three hospitals and the highlights of Toledo.
The University of Toledo’s Health Science Campus studies opened in 1969, when the school was known as the Medical College of Ohio. When the training hospitals merged with the University of Toledo in 2006, the school gained one of the highest operating budgets in the state, and became one of only 17 public universities in the country to have separate colleges of business administration, education, engineering, law, medicine and pharmacy, according to the school’s website. The University of Toledo Health Science Campus and the surrounding area provides student housing for nearly 2,000 medical students, who are engaged in research in five academic divisions (Medicine, Nursing, Health Sciences, Graduate Studies and Pharmacy) at three hospitals (University Medical Center, MUO Rehabilitation Hospital and the Kobacker Center).
A university apartment in the area of these hospitals in the south of Toledo positions students near the hangouts and attractions on Glendale Avenue and the Southland Shopping Plaza.
